The first month of the baby's life

1. Immediately after the birth of the baby, the doctor will calculate the Apgar score, and the baby will receive the first note of his life.
On the first day of the baby's life, with your consent, the baby will be given the following vaccines:

    • anti-hepatitis B,

    • anti-TBC.

2. On the second day of your baby's life, based on the identity card of you, of the parent, you will be given a signed neonatologist's document. That is necessary to obtain than the child's birth certificate.

Also on the second day of your baby's life, you can make other analyzes of your baby, such as:

    • microbiology - haemoculture - where microbial germs develop,

    • blood count,

    • biochemistry - glucose, total serum calcium, quantitative CRP (Reactive Protein C).

Tip: From the beginning, your baby needs to wear gloves, otherwise it will scratch on his face. At the moment we can not cut baby's fingernails, because it has skin glued to his nails.

3. On the third day of your baby's life, you realize new needs for you - disinfectant for healing the operation, antibiotics, anticoagulation pills, breastfeeding nipples. And for your baby: borax glycerin, sterile compresses, powder, powdered milk.

Medical investigations:

On the third day of your baby's life, further investigations are done on your baby.
Checking whether the newborn's senses are right, for example, the eyes: microbiology analysis - bacterial examination of conjunctival secretion.
Also, hearing can be analyzed.
Some ultrasounds are also performed: transfontanelar ultrasound.

Tips: Pay attention to how you place the baby at your breast, so as not to cover his nose!
To place your baby on the desired side, you have to run a cotton diaper and put it behind the baby.

4. The fourth day of the baby's life. The discharge from the hospital

Before being discharged from the hospital, you will receive advice from your gynecologist and your baby's neonatologist.
For you to heal faster, you will find that you can take your vitamin from the period of pregnancy, even if you are breastfeeding.
For your baby, you will find out what amount of milk to give on a meal, at what interval or what type of water (it must be specified on the bottle label if the water is for the newborn).
Also, at the maternity hospital, your baby's latest blood tests will be done (for example, the blood sample of the newborn for total bilirubin).
On the day of discharge, the baby's clothing must be ironed and must be 100% cotton.

You need to know that at the discharge from the hospital, you will receive:
    • discharge sheet,

    • the vaccines notebook,

    • analyzes performed.

5. The fifth day of your baby's birth

To simplify milk preparation, you can buy an electric appliance to boil and heat water quickly.
Also, breastfeeding shirts and post-operative lingerie are very useful.
If you have not yet bought baby bottles, you should look for anti-regurgitation bottles at the pharmacy.
Your baby, aged 5 days of life, will eat 7 meals * 70 ml of milk at 2 hours a half or 3 hours.

Tips: For colics, there are various droplet solutions at the pharmacy that will be put in the milk bottle (before talk with the doctor!).
You have to go out for a walk with your baby, for half an hour a day but you have to avoid crowded places with children because they are the biggest carriers of infectious diseases.

6. At one week after the birth of your baby

If the transfontanelar ultrasonography is not already done in the hospital, this analysis will be done now, and you will receive the interpretation on the spot.
Just like before, you will give your baby only milk, without water or tea.
Emphasis should be placed on continuous communication with the newborn.
The skin on skin contact is very important, whether you are breastfeeding or feeding the baby with the bottle because babies adore your skin (when the mother holds her baby at the chest) from intra-uterine life.
Regarding your baby's walks, it's good to walk him daily, but close to home or avoid crowded places, because the baby does not have the antibodies formed yet.
Also, the newborn's room must be well ventilated, the clothing should be of cotton, and if he has cold extremities, socks and gloves will be given to him.

7. Tips:

 • "Pre" milk is given until the baby weighs 4 kg. Then the next number of milk is consumed by the baby until the age of 6 months.

 • A scale must be purchased/borrowed to track the evolution of the newborn.

 • If it is cold, the baby should only be covered up to the knees. There should be no objects around him that can choke him.

 • The baby's ophthalmological control is usually performed at the age of one year, but if you experience problems, then it is best to go to the doctor with your child as soon as possible.

At your baby's 2 weeks of life, we can administer to the baby vitamin D3 (on the tongue in the morning), and the bottle will change after 30 days (at the advice of your pediatrician!).

8. Observations from the first month of your baby's life

a. About baby's position

Your baby may be squatting because of the intrauterine position. You may be advised to make him a massage, and the hip resonance (which is done at the age of one month) will tell you if your baby's legs look normal or not.
The baby can move his hands better than legs.
The baby should not be forced, he will adopt the frog's position, then around the fifth month of life, he will select the position of the swordsman.
If the newborn strikes with his hands and also with his feet randomly and not evenly, it means that he is a healthy and perfect child.

b. About the position of sleep of the baby
The baby can sleep with his hands up because he still retains his position from the intra-uterine life.
Sometimes, although the baby will sleep, he will keep his eyes open.
To fall asleep the baby, we can use white noises, like the foehn or songs that imitate the sound of the vacuum cleaner or the rain or the noise from the TV when a channel is undergoing technical revision.
It is possible that after about 4 months of your baby's life, this noisy method will no longer work and on the contrary, makes the baby cry, be restless and can not sleep at all with these noises.
In this case, use these noises as much as it works, and with the passing of the days, you can search for other cradle songs for your newborn (such as Brahms' Lullaby for babies, which you can find on the Internet).

c. About your baby's transit
Also in the first month of life, problems with transit occur and only if a baby has no seat for more than 48 hours, only in this case we can give the newborn a glycerin suppository for baby (only at the advice of your pediatrician!).
